The family who bought this 100 yr. old home wanted to restore it to its original beauty while bringing it into the 21st century. This was a multi-year process that we undertook, which involved working with their architect, contractors, and cabinet makers. Since the house is situated on a lake, the master bedroom and kitchen were resituated to face the water. I worked with the family in selecting all finishes, including painted and wallpapered walls and cabinets; wood and stone countertops; appliances and plumbing fixtures; all tiles for the bathrooms, mudroom, and pantry. I designed custom bookcases in the husband’s office and in the living room. A custom window seat and an armoire, featuring antique glass doors were built in the master bedroom and seem as if they have been there since the beginning. Even a new slate roof was selected in a rough-edged blue color to replace the tired old shingles, and gorgeous red bricks replaced a tired driveway. This project was a labor of love for all involved.
As far as design and color schemes were concerned, the owners love traditional design and cozy, welcoming spaces for cooking and entertaining. The owners wanted neutral colors of taupe and gray but also wanted blues, greens, and reds brought in without making the spaces too stimulating. The décor feels layered and purposeful, traditional yet fresh.
